Terms & Privacy

Public by default

Every video you upload to subs.rip is public. The filename, the Japanese transcript, the English translation and your display handle are all published at /sub/<slug> and listed on the homepage, on /subtitles, and in our sitemap so search engines can index them.

By uploading, you confirm you have the right to publish the audio content and the resulting transcripts, and you agree to make them available publicly under these terms.

What we store

We don't store the original video file on our servers — audio is extracted in your browser and uploaded directly to DashScope for transcription.

Your display handle

Your handle is derived from your Clerk username (if set) or the local part of your email. It appears on your public subtitle pages. If you prefer a custom handle, set a username in Clerk account settings.

Hiding a subtitle

You can hide any individual subtitle from the public feed and from /sub/<slug> by pressing Hide on the job row. Hidden subtitles still exist in your account and can be downloaded; they're just not shown to anyone else or indexed by search engines. You can also delete a subtitle entirely.

Processing providers

Audio and text are sent to third-party AI services to complete the transcription + translation pipeline:
